In the past 48 hours alone, at least 321 people have lost their lives, with the majority of casualties in the mountainous province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Devastating flash floods and collapsing homes have also claimed lives in Pakistan administered Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, with nine and five fatalities respectively.

Thousands of rescue workers are struggling to reach stranded communities as roads are washed out, and machinery and ambulances can’t get through. The meteorological department warns of more heavy rainfall imminent, compounding the urgency of the crisis.

What AMWT Has Done — Ongoing Response (as of Mid july 2025)

1. Swift Emergency Response Initiated

Al Mustafa launched its flood relief campaign on 18 July 2025, mobilizing food, clean water, medicines, and mobile medical assistance despite extreme challenges like flooded roads, poor connectivity, and disrupted communications.

2. Key Relief Activities Deployed

Targeted Locations:

Chakri Village (most devastated by River Sawan overflow), Dhok Hassu, Pirwadhai, and Adiala Road in Rawalpindi and now in KPK.

Aid Delivered:

Over 3000 hot meals provided to starving families
50+ stranded madrassa students rescued and fed
Distribution of water bottles and ORS o Hygiene kits, including soap, sanitary pads, masks, disinfectants
Operation of a mobile medical camp, including basic medicine provision and health & hygiene awareness campaigns promoting sanitation and flood safety.

3. Preparedness and Flexibility

What began as a 7–10 day campaign remains ongoing, with AMWT adapting its operations to the evolving disaster—ready to scale further.
Broader operations across Pakistan are also underway, where taking action in Balochistan, KPK, Sindh, and Punjab—setting up medical camps and distributing emergency packs with food, water, shelter items, baby and mother essentials.

Why This Continues to Be Crucial—Current Disaster Context

Death Toll Rising Rapidly:

At least 321 deaths confirmed in the past 48 hours—primarily in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides.
Some reports now count 344, even 350+, fatalities as the crisis deepens.

Widespread Infrastructure Collapse:

Homes, roads, and entire villages swept away. Rescue operations, including civilian and military teams, are under immense strain. Tragically, a rescue helicopter crashed, killing its crew.

Emergency Declared & Alert Issued:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declared emergencies in multiple districts until August 31. The NDMA has limited tourism into mountain areas and emphasized continued risks through August 19.
