WHICH NIGHT IS LAYLAT UL QADR?

The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is not specified or known, although it is thought to occur on an odd night in the last ten days of Ramadan (e.g. the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27 or 29th night). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Seek it in the last ten days, on the odd nights,” (Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim).
Some hadith point to Laylat ul Qadr falling on the 27th night of Ramadan.

IS LAYLAT UL QADR ON THE 27TH?

While some hadith reference to Laylat ul Qadr falling on the 27th night of Ramadan, the exact night has not been specified.

We are encouraged to seek out Laylat ul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially within the odd nights.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF LAYLAT UL QADR?

There are a few signs of Laylat ul Qadr which have been detailed in the Qur’an and sunnah as below:
1. It will be a peaceful night.
In the Holy Qur’an, it says that on Laylat ul Qadr: “Peace it is until the emergence of dawn” [97:5] Furthermore, Ibn Khuzaymah said that: “it is a night that is neither hot nor cold.”

2. There is potential for rain
There are some narrations where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned that he dreamed about Laylat ul Qadr and in that dream he had prostrated and when he came up, his face was wet with rain water and mud. (Al-Bukhari, 813)

3. A Special Sunrise
Some narrations say the sunrise the following morning is going to be with a sun with no rays. This means it will be a very weak sun, where you can look straight at it. Imam An-Nawawi provides two explanations as to why this could be the case:
- Allah just wants it that way. He wanted the sun to come up in a very special way after a special night.
- Due to the amount of angels filling the sky, they’re actually blocking the sunbeams.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT LAYLAT UL QADR?

Layla tul Qadr, the Night of Decree or Night of Power, is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar.

It was the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is also believed to be the night in which Allah shows great mercy to His creation and the night in which one’s fate is decreed.

Allah says in the Qur’an,
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months,”(Qur’an, 97:3).

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven,”
(Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim).
