What is the Night of Power?

The Night of Power - also known as as Laylat ul-Qadr - falls within the final ten days of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The first verses were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) during Ramadan on the night of Laylatul Qadr, often referred to as The Night of Power or Night of Decree.

The Qur’an says that the angels descend to Earth on Laylatul Qadr and that this night alone holds rewards equivalent to those of a thousand months.

“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.

And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?

The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.

The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.

Peace it is until the emergence of dawn“

(Qur’an, Surah Al-Qadr)

It is also known as the night in which your fate is decided for the following year, and as such is a time to reflect and repent for your sins and pray for forgiveness and Allah’s (swt) mercy.

What year was the night of power?

While the exact date of the night of power is unclear, it fell within the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan in 610 CE.

What are the benefits of Laylatul Qadr?

The blessings, rewards and benefits of performing any good deed and praying on the night of Laylatul Qadr is believed to be better than that of a thousand months of worship and devotion.

Giving charity on this night will be as though you have given charity continuously for 1,000 months.

If you donate just £33, it will be as if you have donated £1,000,000!

“You cannot attain righteousness until you give to charity from the possessions that you love. All that you give to charity, Allah (SWT) is fully aware of.”

The Holy Qur’an [3:92]

Why is the 27th day of Ramadan so important?

While we are unaware on exactly which day in Ramadan, Laylatul Qadr falls, our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said: “Search for Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.” (Hadith Bukhari)

Some hadith point to Laylatul Qadr falling on the 27th night of Ramadan.

On The Night of Power, deeds are multiplied and we are given countless opportunities for forgiveness and reward.
